Courses in this Certificate

This 18 credit-hour, stand-alone program consists of six, three credit courses:

  • ITS320 Basic Programming
    This course provides a detailed overview of fundamental programming, design, and testing concepts using Python. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of Python scripting and will become proficient in writing modular Python classes. At the core of class method development, students will write Python methods using lists, dictionaries, conditional logic, and looping controls. Recommended Prior Course: ITS310. (This course is also offered through SSA. Credits earned using this option will appear on transcripts with an “S” suffix.) Course not eligible for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) credit.
  • ITS330 Web Design and Development
    This course offers an introduction to design principles, practices, processes, and technologies associated with web design. Students will gain an understanding of HTML programming, cascading style sheets, and JavaScript. Students will explore the effects of web compliance and accessibility standards on web design. Prerequisite: ITS320.
  • ITS335 Human Computer Interaction
    This course provides an introduction to Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) theories. Students will gain an understanding of the components required to design, evaluate, and implement and interactive computing system. The course will introduce concepts related to human psychology and perception, computer and interface system design, and system analysis. Prerequisite: ITS330.
  • ITS340 Introduction to Programming with Java Script
    In this course, students will learn object-oriented programming concepts using the JavaScript language. Students will demonstrate the ability to apply concepts of software design, encapsulation, and testing using JavaScript. Students will apply the JavaScript language in the creation of interactive web applications. Prerequisite: ITS320.
  • ITS345 Web Development Principles with PHP
    In this course, students will demonstrate the ability to create web applications using the PHP scripting language. Students will be able to develop database-driven web applications using an appropriate database. Students will gain the knowledge necessary to create client and server web application components. Prerequisite: ITS320.
  • ITS410 Database Management
    This course teaches students to design, implement, and use database management systems. Students gain a working knowledge of available software packages, concepts of query languages, software integration services, and security considerations. Students will also learn fundamentals of structured query language (SQL) in developing common queries and reports. (This course is also offered through SSA. Credits earned using this option will appear on transcripts with an "SSA" suffix.)
